Images and Videos

Learn how to add and configure media content in Mappica visualizations.

Overview

Images and Videos help enrich your visualization project with content such as supplemental diagrams and video tutorials. Both elements can be added to the visualization canvas from the Insert menu in the toolbar of the Visualization Editor.

Image Setup

After adding an image to the canvas, navigate to the Setup section in the Image tab to configure the following options:

  • Name: Provide a name that will be used to reference the image in the Layers tab and on the canvas.
  • Image URL: Enter a link to an externally hosted image source, in jpg, jpeg, png, svg, gif, or webp format.
  • Margin: Adjust the margin around the image, in pixels.
  • Minimum Height and Maximum Height: The height of the image is determined automatically based on the dimensions of the image and the available space within the parent section. Use the minimum and maximum height options to prevent the image from growing smaller or larger than a certain value. The image will then be aligned within the image container based on your selection in the Alignment setting.

Video Setup

Once a video has been added to the canvas, open the Video tab and modify the following fields in the Setup section:

  • Name: Provide a name that will be used to reference the video in the Layers tab and on the canvas.‍
  • Video URL: Provide the URL of an externally hosted video source, in mp4 format.‍
  • Margin: Adjust the margin around the video, in pixels.

Video Formatting

In the Format section of the Video tab, control how the video behaves on the canvas:

  • Loop Video: Enable this to loop the video continuously.
  • Autoplay: Set the video to play automatically when the visualization is loaded.
  • Keep Muted: Keep any audio muted by default.
  • Display Video Controls: Show standard video controls to the end-user. Note that on many browsers the user may still be able to right click on the video to enable the controls interface.
  • Stretch to Fill Space: Ensure the video fits completely within its container space. If this is unselected, the video will only be as wide as the width of the underlying video file.
