Introduction to Mappica

Discover how our platform empowers you to create stunning, interactive data visualizations with ease.
Watch a step-by-step tutorial on creating data visualizations without code in Mappica.

What is Mappica?

Mappica is a powerful, no-code platform for creating data visualizations. Whether you’re building with charts, maps, or tables, Mappica gives you full control over every detail with an intuitive drag-and-drop editor.
Designed for simplicity, Mappica enables seamless data exploration through user-friendly controls, ensuring your audience can interact with visualizations effortlessly. From filtering data to toggling content, the experience is natural and engaging.
Mappica also simplifies tasks like managing datasets and basemaps, while offering time-saving features such as color lookups for commonly used variable names (available in the Pro plan). If you are a Pro plan customer, you can also customize branding elements like colors, fonts, and logos to ensure visualizations are consistent with your brand.
With Mappica, you can build beautiful, on-brand visualizations that allow users to interact and control elements in real-time. This example features an area chart of National Park visitors, controlled dynamically by a selector element (the checkboxes).

Accessing Mappica

Mappica uses passwordless authentication for both sign up and sign in. Enter your email address and then check your email inbox for a six digit code to open the Mappica Dashboard.
If you don't receive the email promptly, please check your junk mail or spam folder. Note that some email providers may also take a few minutes to process incoming emails.

Workspaces

After signing in for the first time you'll be prompted to create your first workspace. In Mappica, workspaces are collections of similar projects. For instance, you could create one workspace for personal projects and another for your organization.
You can choose at any time to upgrade a workspace to the Mappica Pro plan, which lets you build a custom-branded theme for your visualizations, invite other team members to collaborate, and access other Pro plan features.

Projects

When you click on a project in your workspace, you'll leave the Mappica Dashboard and enter the Mappica Editor.
In the left panel of the Editor, you'll see a Project tab, which displays the following three types of content:
  • Visualizations are pages that contain charts, maps, and other components. Once published, a visualization can be embedded on an external website.
  • Datasets are spreadsheets that store the data used in visualization components such as charts and maps. Each dataset consists of fields (columns) and records (rows). Each field is assigned its own field name and data type, such as "text", "number", or "date".
  • Basemaps are maps stored in GeoJSON format, consisting of features (geographical shapes) such as countries, provinces, and electoral districts. Once imported into a project, a basemap can be used in visualization's map component.
